As a music educator, I value improving my teaching on a continuous basis by applying research, staying connected to current educational practices in K-12 orchestra programs, collaborating with peers, and attending professional conferences. All of those activities allow me to reflect upon, adapt, and update my teaching to better serve my students throughout their career. To reach those goals, I have participated in the professional development opportunities included below.
Professional Development
American String Teachers Association (ASTA)
I attended the ASTA National Conference every year since 2014. During that time, I annually presented string pedagogy sessions and various research posters at the national level. I also served as the conference Chair or Vice-Chair from 2017-2020 and again in 2023 (Chair). In addition, I attended numerous string pedagogy, classroom management, repertoire selection, conducting, socio-emotional learning, and DEI sessions at each conference to learn from my peers.
The Midwest Clinic
I attended the The Midwest Clinic numerous times since 2015. I attended various sessions at each conference from some of the leading music education pedagogues in the world. In addition, I attended numerous orchestra concerts performed by some of the best elementary, middle, and high school orchestras from the United States. As a presenter, I also presented numerous presentations on string pedagogy and repertoire selection. I have also co-led a pre-conference workshop on teaching strings for secondary string players.
Ohio Music Educators Association (OMEA)
I attended the Ohio Music Educators Professional Development Conference every year since 2016. In that time, I presented various string pedagogy sessions. I attended also numerous sessions at each conference to improve my teaching.
Other Professional Presentations
Presented additional sessions or clinics at the following conferences and universities since 2012.
